The Key West Art styles are very fresh, original and well connected to the tropical setting of these islands.

It's an art form that evolve here from the work of talented and well inspired local artists, simply because of inspiration and talent, after all the Florida Keys has inspired some of our greatest artists of all times.

Walking along the most fashionable streets of Key West you'll find the museums and art galleries featuring the work of these great Conch Republic's artists, don't need to go any farther because art is everywhere. In the most sophisticated art galleries or in the streets...From paintings to conch shell designs...Art work...Is everywhere.

But not only the local art is showcased in the galleries of our colorful city.

Outdoor Art in Key West.

Many of the Key West art forms evolved from street artists like this painter on Duval Street.

It's normal to find Outdoor Art throughout the city, after all, weather wise Key West is blessed, so why not to take the art to the picturesque streets.

Yes, there is a lot of art out there in the open!

You also find art at the many museums and historic sites around Key West. The Old town for example is artistic in nature, the architectural designs, the statues and sculptures, the botanic gardens, and even the city's old cemetery have lost of art.

Run by the Key West Art and Historical society the Key West Art & History Museum is located at the 281 Front St, right next to the Mallory Square in the Old Town and in a very popular touristic area of the city, you can't miss this big red brick building with the gigantic statues of a man and woman in a dancing embrace posture.

The museum not only showcases the art of renowned world and local artists but also runs educational art programs.

The historic building once was the Key West Custom House, built in 1891, served as a post office, government center and court house back then when wrecking made this the riches city in the U.S. 

Some of the museums exhibits to the delight of the visitors.

  • Learn Abut the life of Ernest Hemingway.
  • See the wood paintings of the old key West by folk artist Mario Sanchez.
  • The "Coolest Museum in Town" it's a fountain of local history and probably the best kept historic land mark here.

The museum opens daily 9:30am-4:30pm.

Cost: $7 Adult, $6 senior, $5 child, and free for children under 6.

Key West has been the inspiration and shelter of many artists for many years now and I am purely convinced that Key West Art will continue to flourish for many years to come.
