The Mile Markers.

The Mile Marker (MM) system was developed by the Florida Department of Transportation to more effectively locate the points of interest along the highway.

For example: The Dolphin Research Center, located at 58901 Overseas Highway, Grassy Key, FL, is actually at the MM 58.9.

A1A runs parallel to I-95 for 2,377 miles along the East Coast of the U.S- north into the Canadian border.

The roadway of the highway has been rebuilt and well maintained over the years in excellent condition and like many roads in America is free to travel-no tolls are charged.
