Florida Keys Fishing Competitions | July-December.

Important fishing competitions and events that take place in the Florida Keys during the second half of the Year. (from January until June) *Registration fees might apply to compete in some of these tournaments.

July

  • IFC Junior Dolphin Tournament. First week of July in Islamorada. A tournament organized for Juniors up to the age of 18. Where the winning team it's determined by the combined weight of three fish, and also for the largest fish caught on the different ages categories.
  • Del Brown Invitational Permit Tournament. Third week of July in Key West. This fly fishing on the flats tournament is a popular sporty event here. To the memory of angling pioneer Del Brown.
  • Drambuie Key West Marlin Championship. Third week of July. For $50, 000 on the line anglers will battle for the big Marlin. the spirit of Ernest Hemingway is present throughout this event that coincides with the Hemingway's day’s celebration in Key west.

August

  • 5th Annual Spartan Tournament. At La Siesta Resort and Marina of Islamorada. During the last week of August this inshore and off shore tournament takes place. The anglers can compete individually or as teams, and awards are given on both divisions. Another feature of the tournament is that it's a multi fish species tournament allowing more freedom to the competitors.

September

  • The Islamorada Invitational Fall Fly Bonefish Tournament or the Fall Fly Tournament. Celebrated during the third and last week of September. It's a weight and release fish competition and only 25 anglers can participate
  • Herman Lucerne "Mr. Everglades" Memorial. During the third last week of September in Islamorada. It's said that no one knew the Everglades better that Herman Lucerne. Therefore this friends call him "Mr. Everglades “and this back country fishing tournament is dedicated to his memory.
  • Marathon International Bonefish Tournament "MIBT". Third week of September in Marathon. One of the longest running fishing tournament in the Florida Keys! For 50 years this tournament has been a favorite of individuals and team adult anglers to compete for the largest bonefish, tarpon or permit.
  • Children Backcountry Challenge. Last week of September in Key Largo This is an annual fund raising fishing tournament for the benefit of local and statewide children scholarships and other programs.
  • Robert James S.L.A.M Celebrity Championship the "Trilogy". Second week of September in Key West. It's the third of the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series to raise money for the cystic fibrosis research. Bonefish, tarpon and permit are the fish species that competitive anglers will target at this event.

October

  • Baybone Celebrity Tournament. First week of October in Key Largo. The Baybone Tournament is a set of three different annual tournaments. In this competition celebrities of the sports and entertainment get together to compete to raise money for cystic fibrosis research.
  •  Bonefish World Championship or the Fall-All-Tackle Bonefish. Second week of October in Islamorada. It's a three day championship for experienced and newcomer’s alike, at one angler and experienced captain per boat, and a total of 25, they compete for division trophies.

November

  • Annual Redbone Celebrity Tournament. First week of November in Islamorada. One of a series of annual celebrities tournament meant too raise money for cystic fibrosis. Local anglers and celebrities compete on this series of annual tournaments to catch redfish and bonefish and the money goes to charity.
  • Cheeca Lodge & Spa Backcountry Fishing. First and second weeks of November. This is the second annual big event of this nature at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. Anglers will compete for trophies and prizes at the event, practically targeting fish species of the flats and shallows, redfish, snook, bonefish, permit and tarpon.

December

  • Islamorada Sailfish Tournament. December is a great month to catch sailfish, and this action packed tournament which is the first leg of the Florida Keys Gold Cup Series, is well renown and much awaited by the big league anglers sportsmen. The tournament also hosts a junior division for anglers 16 year of age and under.  
  • Don Gurgiolo Sailfish Classic Tournament. In Islamorada during the second week of December. This tournament is part of the Redbone series of tournaments. Don Gurgiolo was one of Islamorada's greatest captains and for this reason the tournament was named after him.
