Bahia Honda.
"A Beach with Seductive Views"

A Florida Keys Beach with extraordinary scenarios that has the quality to delight the senses! Years back got an award as the Best Beach in North America and that could easily be the setting for a Hollywood movie...That is Bahia Honda.

Sign at the entrance to Bahia Honda State Park, reads best beach in North America in 1992, Florida Keys beach.

The Bahia Honda State Park and Beaches (there are more than one beach here) are located exactly on the Mile Marker 37 of the Scenic Highway.

In the area of Bahia Honda Key just before Big Pine Key and after the 7 mile bridge as if you were traveling south towards Key West over the Overseas Highway..

A nice drive over the best part of the Overseas Scenic Highway had taken you here for a nice day at the park. It costs $5 to get in the park, and park for the whole day, no rush!

A day at the Bahia Honda State Park is a day of sun,at the beach and total relaxation...These are the descriptive characteristics of this Florida Keys State Park. There is not hustle, not rush, no traffic and plenty of water to swim or dive on this part of the Florida Keys.

The Florida Keys beach with a view..!

Bahia Honda has more than one sandy beach for swimming snorkeling or just walking or laying on the sand.

Calusa (my favorite) is the smallest one of these beaches, located in between the remains of the old railroad bridge and the new Highway US 1, on the North West of the island.

Children love to snorkel in this beach, the water is deeper than on the other beaches and is marked by a set of buoys for the swimmers and has a very nice sandy area for sun bathing, picnic and family gathering.

Spectacular view of Calusa Beach from the top of the old bridge.

*Here we find restrooms and outdoor fresh water showers, parking and picnic tables.

Section Calusa Beach and the old railroad bridge at Bahia Honda, Florida Keys.

The scenic view of the old abandoned railroad bridge is fantastic from here, and on the other side is the new and busy US-1 as we know it.

Loggerhead, Sandspur and the walking trails of the park.

The Bahia Honda State Park walking trails and beaches.

Loggerhead is on the south side of the island and is a shallow water beach excellent for children and none swimmers.

Sandspur is the largest beach and it's located on the southeast end of the island.

It’s very easy to find the beaches and the parking areas here. Park your car and then walk on the board walks, foot paths or the trails around the park.

View of the entrance to the walking trail that leads to the top of the old railroad bridge in Bahia Honda.

Just one trail takes you to the top of the remains of the old rail bridge section adjacent to the Calusa Beach picnic area, all this area is beautifully surrounded by palms, coconut trees and tropical vegetation. The views from here are breath taking.

Besides the beaches and the park.

There are live corals reefs in some nearby areas like Looe Key where you can snorkel and study the abundant aquatic life of The Florida Keys. Snorkeling tours don't cost much, they are affordable. A nice little adventure at the reef. For snorkeling tours reservations call 305-872-3210.

You can bring or rent a kayak, canoe, boat and go fishing on or under the bridge. The fresh catch can then be cooked for a tasty and healthy meal in the evening while you appreciate the sunset of the tropics!

The main marina of the park has two modern boat ramps and also boat slips for overnight rentals with electricity, water, showers, restrooms and others park facilities.

It's better to make your reservations in advance calling 305-872-3210.

Calusa is a popular family reunion beach in Bahia Honda, Florida Keys.

The perfect  Florida Keys beach for  family gathering and children playground.

Camping at the Bahia Honda State Park.

But to me the best of all is the camping full facilities of the park..! so bring your RV or small tents.

The camping sites have gravel, well for RVs, and they have electricity, water, picnic tables and BBQ grills, restrooms, hot showers. Grocery and marine supplies are also available in the park.

The camping sites of the Bahia Honda State Park.

Some of the camping sites are waterfront, having a great view of the ocean and the beach, others are in the hardwood hammock.

Some are low clearance so you have to be aware of the high of your vehicle specially the one where you have to drive under the bridge.

Camping in the Florida Keys.

Take some time to explore our national treasures.

The Bahia Honda State Park is only one of the many National Parks and Campgrounds in this vast system of State Parks.

Our parks have great beauty, history, and a diversity of fauna and vegetation, that ranges from the subtropics of Florida, to the mountain ranges of the Colorado, the Red Wood Forests of California, the swamp lands of Louisiana and the frozen lands of Alaska.

So take some time to explore our National Parks, don’t be road shy…!
